The Koodai Story at Akidat
Koodai is particularly special to us because it is a craft that has been part of Anitha's life since childhood. As a school-going child in South of India, Akidat's Creative Director learnt the technique of making these baskets by hand. Years later, she decided to revive that craft and bring it into the world of Akidat. Today, each Akidat Koodai is made by hand, slowly and carefully, using processed recycled plastic yarn.
How Is a Koodai Made?
There is no machine rushing the process. The yarn is hand-braided, woven and knotted into shape, with each bag taking several days to complete. The process requires patience, precision and plenty of hands-on work. The result is a sturdy, colourful bag with the character of something genuinely handmade.
