Akidat is a UK-based handmade lifestyle brand grown from Loughborough, creating colourful bags, accessories, jewellery and everyday pieces inspired by Indian craft, textiles and heritage.
2. Where is Akidat based?
Akidat is based in Loughborough, UK. Our co-founder Shradha is based here, and we regularly take Akidat to markets, pop-ups and events across Loughborough and the wider East Midlands.
3. Where are Akidat's products made?
Our products are made by artisans in India who are trained and guided under the care of our co-founder and creative head, Anitha. We bring their craftsmanship, alongside our Indian heritage and love of colour, to customers across the UK.
4. Who makes Akidat's handmade products?
Akidat's handmade products are created by artisans in India, including women who have been trained through Akidat. Anitha, our co-founder and creative head, guides the artisans and plays an important role in developing our handmade products.
5. Are Akidat bags handmade?
Yes. Many Akidat bags and accessories are handmade in small batches, with techniques including quilting, weaving, braiding, knotting and other traditional craft processes. Because they are handmade, small variations can make each piece unique.
6. What is a Koodai bag?
Koodai is a traditional basket-making technique from Tamil Nadu, India. At Akidat, we use the technique to create colourful contemporary bags using processed recycled plastic yarn, with each piece handmade by Anitha and her team.
7. How are Akidat Koodai bags made?
Each Koodai is made by hand using processed recycled plastic yarn. The yarn is braided, woven and knotted into shape without a machine, and a single bag can take several days to complete.
8. Are Koodai bags washable?
Yes. Koodai bags can be washed and are designed to be practical for everyday use. They're also rain-friendly, making them particularly useful for life in the UK.
9. What materials does Akidat use?
Depending on the collection, Akidat uses materials including cotton, denim, processed recycled plastic yarn, wood and scrap fabrics. We love giving interesting materials, colours and traditional techniques a contemporary twist.
10. Do you ship across the UK?
Yes. Although Akidat is based in Loughborough, we ship our products across the UK through our online shop.
